Year 1/2 (Elm)

Welcome to Year 1/2 - Elm Class

Summer 1

Teacher: Mrs S Khan

Teaching Assistant: Mrs R Khan

Mrs S. Khan and Mrs R. Khan would like to welcome everyone back to school. We hope you have had a brilliant break and are ready to work hard for the summer term.

To find out what we will be learning about in Maths and English, please read our newsletter provided in the attachment below.

Reading, Spellings and Homework

We ask children to bring in their reading books and diaries to school every day so that when an opportunity arises for them to read, they have their books ready for us.

Children will be given spellings to learn every Thursday for a small spelling test on the following Tuesday. These will consist of key words and tricky words.

We find that the LOOK SAY COVER WRITE CHECK method for learning spellings works well.

We also encourage the children to do the following:

• Look for patterns in the word

• Say the letter sounds or letter names aloud

• Cover the word to memorise it

• Write it again saying the sounds or letter names out loud.

• Check it

• Repeat the process until you have written it correctly 3 times.

Homework will also be given every Thursday for your child to bring back by the following Tuesday. If your child is struggling with any aspect of their homework then please do not hesitate to come and see me and I will be only too happy to help.

General reminders

The children will be taking part in PE lessons every Monday afternoon and Thursday morning. Please can you ensure your child has their PE kit in school (black shorts, a white t-shirt and black pumps). All items of clothing should be clearly labelled to avoid items going missing.

School uniform must also be labelled clearly.

If your child needs an inhaler, please make sure that we have one in school for them, clearly labelled with their name.

Please do not hesitate to come and see us if you have any concerns about your child. We are here to help children excel in their learning. We are available on the yard at the beginning and end of every day; but if you need a longer chat, please make an appointment for after school.

Kind regards

Mrs S Khan and Mrs R Khan
